Wilf Finn

Wilf joined Aither in February 2018 as an Associate Director, General Counsel and head of the Sydney Office.

Since 2001, Wilf has worked in a range of natural resources, legal and regulatory roles in both public and private sectors around Australia and internationally.

Prior to joining Aither, Wilf was Corporate Counsel and then Regulatory & Corporate Strategy Adviser at WaterNSW – the NSW Government’s State Owned Corporation responsible for bulk water supply, declared catchment management, river operation, water licensing, trade, monitoring, data and information.

He has previously worked in water and natural resources policy for the Australian and NSW Governments – at the National Water Commission and Natural Resources Commission respectively.

Wilf’s legal experience has included:

  • corporate, commercial, environment, planning, litigation and regulatory roles at leading international law firms – Allens Linklaters and Norton Rose Fulbright; and
  • In-house commercial / legal roles at WaterNSW, Caltex, Snowy Hydro and Hismelt (a Rio Tinto JV).

Throughout Wilf’s broad career, he has had a consistent focus on the water industry (particularly rural water issues and water markets), most recently at WaterNSW, but also:

  • Delivering the National Water Commission’s inaugural Australian Water Markets Report 2007-2008 and Australian Environmental Water Management Report 2010;
  • Completing a Masters of Environmental Science, majoring in Water Science and Water Management – which included paddling the Murray River in 2009;
  • Advising on water transactions and regulation of water in mining (particularly CSG in QLD and NSW).

Aside from a broad and extensive career in water, Wilf’s spare time is often spent paddling, rowing, exploring and racing the waterways and coastline of NSW and further afield.
